This Week at New Life

Sunday, October 1, 2023

In the Gospel of John we are going to go in-depth and look at the single most amazing human (God-man) to ever walk the face of this earth, Jesus Christ. Throughout this study in John we are going to be encouraged, shocked, convicted, and left with a deep sense of awe in regards to Jesus of Nazareth. The deepest yearnings of our soul will only be satisfied by the truths that we find in this book. Invite your family, friends, colleagues and join us as we gaze intently at the One who created the world and yet loved us enough to die for us.

Worship Services - 9:00am and 11:00am

Nursery care for children 0-2 is available during the Sunday School hour and during the 11:00 service.

Children’s Church for kids age 3-5 during the 11:00 service.

Charles Spurgeon, a 19th-century, English preacher, referred to the prayer gatherings of his church as the “boiler room.” In Spurgeon’s time, boiler rooms were the powerhouses, the driving forces of everything. He believed that prayer was the spiritual power behind the effectiveness of his ministry. This conviction about the power of prayer is clearly seen in the pages of Scripture. Join us for prayer each Sunday in Room 209 - near the office entrance.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
— 1 John 5:14-15

Sunday School for all ages (10:15-11:00)

Connection Cards

We have Connection Cards available on the backs of the chairs in the sanctuary. Guests can fill them out and take them to the Info Center for a free gift. Anyone can use them to submit prayer requests, request more information about ministries, update personal contact information, ask a question, or give feedback. Cards can be dropped into the offering boxes at the entrances to the sanctuary.

This is a great time to join a Life Group!

Most of our Life Groups are starting to meet regularly again after taking a break for the summer. This would be a great time to get plugged in. You can find a list of Life Groups at the Info Center in the foyer or on our website: www.newlifeefree.org/life-groups.

You are always welcome to contact Pastor Glenn if you have questions or if you’d like to talk more about which Life Group would be a good fit (605-886-1977 or glennw@newlifeefree.org).

Five Monday Evenings | October 2 - 30

6:00 - 7:30pm at New Life Church

WHAT IS THE BRIDGE COURSE?

The Bridge is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a fun, relaxed way. Each week begins with a meal followed by a talk addressing common questions about life and God. Afterwards there is a small-group conversation where you can ask questions or sit back and listen. There’s no pressure and no one will force you to believe anything.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Bridge is for everyone, especially those wanting to explore the Christian faith, those who have unanswered questions, newcomers to the church and new Christians

We’ll be serving a free meal and providing childcare.

Please register here or call the church office (886-1977) so we can be prepared with food and childcare workers.

NEXT STEPS is an opportunity to learn more about New Life Church, the Evangelical Free Church of America, and our Statement of Faith. We’ll discuss…

  • The background of the EFCA and New Life Church

  • The 10 points in our statement of faith

  • How to get plugged into serving at New Life

  • How to take the next step on the Discipleship Pathway

This class is required for membership at New Life, but is also good for anyone wanting to learn more about the church.

We invite you to come to Room 209 between the worship services October 8-29!

What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

A message and a resource from Pastor Billy:

CPYU is the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, an organization that  seeks to increase the ability of home and church to nurture children and teens into a lifetime of biblically-faithful, whole-life Christian discipleship. The goal of CPYU is for families to be able to navigate the culture of our world in a way that is grounded in a biblical worldview. Every resource that they create is designed to facilitate Bible conversations about what is going on in our world today.

My role with CPYU as a member of their inaugural Research Fellows program began in May of 2023. The 12 research fellows, including me, were tasked with the role of writing articles and family devotions about current topics in our world that our youth are navigating. I have written 1 published article and a family devotion on the subject of grief, and I have a forthcoming article on idolatry due to be published soon. I am excited that we have access to their many resources, and I am hopeful you will take the time to read and explore the content that has been created.

We could use a few more nursery volunteers!

If you would like to help us offer childcare for our young families, please contact Rachel Spies (rachels@newlifeefree.org or 886-1977). We are flexible with scheduling and it really is a blessing to guests and families.

For the next quarter (Oct-Dec), our nursery will not be staffed during the 9:00 service. We will have it open and parents are welcome to be in the nursery with their nursery-age children. We’ll continue to have nursery care available during Sunday School and the 11:00 service.

THERE IS NO OTHER GOSPEL!

This year the youth will be studying two important letters that Paul wrote, Galatians and Ephesians. Both of these letters are foundational to understanding that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone. Not only do they explain how we are made right with God, but both Books are so practical in teaching us how to live the Christian life, because we are now “in Christ”. You will be surprised at how clearly they speak into our culture today.

We end each youth evening with snacks for the students. It’s a fun time to hang out and get to know each other. Parents and others in our church family have been great about baking or purchasing snacks for us - if you’d like to sign up to bring the snack one evening, you can use the button below.

Each month, we will be highlighting a missionary or organization that is supported by New Life. We encourage you to be praying for them and also learning more about how God is working through them in their area of ministry.

Praises:

  • For good Global Fingerprints meetings and ReachGlobal CONNECT meetings for us in September.

  • For a good report on Steve's arm after a cancer spot was removed.  They got all the cancer.

Prayer requests:

  • Steve is leading a crisis response team to Lake Charles on October 22-28th.

  • Pray for several churches that we are visiting in October.
