This Week at New Life

Sunday, September 17, 2023

In the Gospel of John we are going to go in-depth and look at the single most amazing human (God-man) to ever walk the face of this earth, Jesus Christ. Throughout this study in John we are going to be encouraged, shocked, convicted, and left with a deep sense of awe in regards to Jesus of Nazareth. The deepest yearnings of our soul will only be satisfied by the truths that we find in this book. Invite your family, friends, colleagues and join us as we gaze intently at the One who created the world and yet loved us enough to die for us.

Worship Services - 9:00am and 11:00am

Nursery care for children 0-2 is available. Children’s Church for kids age 3-5 during the 11:00 service.

Charles Spurgeon, a 19th-century, English preacher, referred to the prayer gatherings of his church as the “boiler room.” In Spurgeon’s time, boiler rooms were the powerhouses, the driving forces of everything. He believed that prayer was the spiritual power behind the effectiveness of his ministry. This conviction about the power of prayer is clearly seen in the pages of Scripture. Join us for prayer each Sunday in Room 209 - near the office entrance.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
— 1 John 5:14-15

Sunday School for all ages begins this week (9/17)…

We have Connection Cards available on the backs of the chairs in the sanctuary. Guests can fill them out and take them to the Info Center for a free gift. Anyone can use them to submit prayer requests, request more information about ministries, update personal contact information, ask a question, or give feedback. This is a great time to join a Life Group!

Most of our Life Groups are starting to meet regularly again after taking a break for the summer. This would be a great time to get plugged in. You can find a list of Life Groups at the Info Center in the foyer or on our website: www.newlifeefree.org/life-groups.

You are always welcome to contact Pastor Glenn if you have questions or if you’d like to talk more about which Life Group would be a good fit (605-886-1977 or glennw@newlifeefree.org).

Man Shall Not Live by Online Bread Alone

(check out this article recommended by Pastor Michael)

We must never think an online worship service or watching a sermon on television is a genuine substitute for the physical gathering of believers in covenantal community. Yes, we can be grateful for the supplement of online worship—when we’re sick and can’t attend or if we’re out of town—but we draw benefit only because we know the real thing. Tuning in online gives us a taste of the genuine experience. It’s a supplement to the meal.

New Women’s Study - In View of God’s Mercies

Tuesday mornings | 5:45am at New Life | beginning September 19

Romans is a passionate letter written by Paul, a man completely captured by the beauty, mercy, and majesty of God and His glorious salvation. Paul wanted his readers, then and now, to know how amazing and all-encompassing this salvation actually is—that it’s powerful, planned, eternal, free, and leads to a transformed life.

In this 9-session study, walk through the book of Romans to discover that salvation doesn’t just change your eternal future; it changes your present reality. Because of God’s salvation, hope, peace, life, faith,Call trust, and endurance are yours.

Learn that after God saves you, He invites you to join Him on His two-fold mission— to sanctify and transform you into the image of Jesus and to send you out into the world to share the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Call the church office (886-1977) or email Sherry (sherryd@newlifeefree.org) if you’d like us to order a book for you.

New Women’s Zoom Study

Monday evenings | 7:00-8:15 | Sept 25-May 13

We will be reading and discussing the book of Exodus!

This is a great way to get into God’s Word. Each week you will read a selection of Scripture and jot down anything you want to bring up during the zoom discussion. Even if you can’t join all the zoom groups, (life is crazy busy) you will still have been in the Word all week!

We meet online via zoom. A reminder text and an invite will be sent each Monday. If you wish to be included please contact Dana (dana.niemann@yahoo.com or 605-237-3007) with your name, and email address.

NEXT STEPS is an opportunity to learn more about New Life Church, the Evangelical Free Church of America, and our Statement of Faith. We’ll discuss…

  • The background of the EFCA and New Life Church

  • The 10 points in our statement of faith

  • How to get plugged into serving at New Life

  • How to take the next step on the Discipleship Pathway

This class is required for membership at New Life, but is also good for anyone wanting to learn more about the church.

We invite you to come to Room 209 between the worship services October 8-29!

THERE IS NO OTHER GOSPEL!

This year the youth will be studying two important letters that Paul wrote, Galatians and Ephesians. Both of these letters are foundational to understanding that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone. Not only do they explain how we are made right with God, but both Books are so practical in teaching us how to live the Christian life, because we are now “in Christ”. You will be surprised at how clearly they speak into our culture today.

We end each youth evening with snacks for the students. It’s a fun time to hang out and get to know each other. Parents and others in our church family have been great about baking or purchasing snacks for us - if you’d like to sign up to bring the snack one evening, you can use the button below.

Each month, we will be highlighting a missionary or organization that is supported by New Life. We encourage you to be praying for them and also learning more about how God is working through them in their area of ministry.

Thank you for all your support, prayers, and encouragement over the years.  New Life and our friends there have been a blessing to us in many ways.  Below are a few praises and prayer requests:

  • Praise God that we had another successful and safe summer Bible camp flying season.

  • Praise for a day trip to the village of Tyonek that our family was able to go on to build into relationships there. (More details to come in our next newsletter!)

  • Pray for the missionaries we partner with in remote villages who are preparing for the long winter ahead.

  • Pray for wisdom and skill for Derek and the maintenance team as they are busy this fall and winter with aircraft inspections.

  • Pray for Hannah as she manages parenting and working in the MARC office.

  • Praise God for a great start to the school year. We are so thankful to have such a wonderful school here for our kids!
