This Week at New Life

Sunday, August 28, 2022

There are a number of themes in the book of 1 John. In 1 John you will find themes such as the divinity of Jesus, the importance of having right doctrine, living a godly life, and the centrality of love. Although there are a number of different themes there is perhaps one question above all others that John is seeking to answer; how does a person know that they are saved?

We read this in 1 John 5:13, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John will inspire and challenge you to seek hard after Christ and to make sure your life reflects what it is that you say you believe. Invite a friend and join us as we dig into 1 John this summer!

Sunday Worship Services at 9:00am & 11:00am

Nursery care for children 0-2 is available all morning. Children’s Church is offered during the 11:00 service for kids age 3-5.

Sermon Series Challenge

We are going to challenge everyone at New Life Church to memorize the first chapter of 1 John during this sermon series.

“I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Proverbs 119:11

Next Week - Sunday, September 4

Joy is one of the most powerful forces in the entire world!

Joy has the power to keep us from falling into worldly temptations and it can also keep us from being overwhelmed by the trials of this life. Not only is the “joy of the Lord” our strength, it is also what the watching world desperately needs to see in the church. The world needs a visible demonstration of just how amazing the good news of Jesus Christ truly is. Few things give this demonstration better than followers of Jesus who are overflowing with joy. Yet we need to be told the truth, we are going to have to learn to fight for this joy every single say. Join us on Sunday, September 4 as we look to God’s Word to discover the source of this supernatural joy!

Sunday School Classes are taking a break for the summer.

We’ll have our annual Ministry Fair on Sept 11, and then regular Sunday School classes will start on Sept 18!

We invite you to join us for coffee and cookies in the foyer between the worship services.

You can stick around after the 9:00 service or come a little early for the 11:00 service.

Connection Cards

We have Connection Cards available on the backs of the chairs in the sanctuary. Guests can fill them out and take them to the Info Center for a free gift. Anyone can use them to submit prayer requests, request more information about ministries, update personal contact information, ask a question, or give feedback. Cards can be dropped into the offering boxes at the entrances to the sanctuary.

Thank you, New Life Family…

Thanks so much to Pastor Michael and all our special friends at New Life for all the cards, messages, food and memorials in memory of Dave. He loved this church and all the friends we’ve made here! You’re helping me get through this with all your love and prayers!

Opportunity to serve our Youth…

The Youth Group will start their regular Wednesday evening meetings on September 7. Each week we end the evening with a snack and time to hang out together after their small group time. People from our New Life family have been providing snack for us - either homemade or picked up at a store. The students really enjoy this time! If you would like to bring a snack you can sign up using the button below (the sign up is near the bottom of the page), or call the church office (886-1977) and we can help you get signed up.

Two Women’s Bible Studies starting this fall…

Tuesdays | 5:45am | beginning Sept 20 | at New Life

The Book of Numbers continues the historical narrative in Exodus, the story of God’s people newly freed from Egypt’s shackles and wandering toward the promised land. Numbers is a story of wilderness wandering, but it’s also a story of God’s presence among His beloved.

Join Lauren Chandler in this 7-session, in-depth study of the Book of Numbers and God’s people. Discover how even when they rebelled—and this book tells of many rebellions—God’s love and promises remained. It’s in that love and those promises the children of Israel found their identity and where we must find ours today.

Email Sherry if you would like us to order a workbook for you (sherryd@newlifeefree.org).

Mondays | 7:00-8:15pm | beginning Oct 3 | on Zoom

We will begin the book of Acts this fall!! Our reading schedule will begin September 27 and our first discussion group will meet via zoom on Oct 3. Our youth will also be studying the book of Acts this school year. Although we will be behind them by about a month, this should provide some awesome discussion opportunities for the moms and grandmas of those youth. As you talk about what you're learning with your student, it will provide recall and reinforcement for what Pastor Billy has taught them.

We will study one chapter per week - reading it repeatedly and jotting down questions and comments that you want to discuss. Don't worry if you can't make all the zoom meetings, as long as you're following the reading schedule, you can jump in whenever it works for you.

I have been using this study method for a while, and I love it! This style of study was designed for those who are busy and have little time for homework. There are no study guides to fill in, no videos to watch, and no travel time. Just you and your Bible!

Contact Dana N (dana.niemann@yahoo.com, 605-237-3007) or Dawn S (dawnmstee@gmail.com) for more information and to get the Zoom link.

We’re starting a new Life Group just for Young Adults (18-26). The group will meet regularly on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm at New Life (beginning Sept 20) -BUT- to get started, we’re hosting a pizza lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the second service on Sunday, September 18. If you know of Lake Area students or other young adults in Watertown, please invite them!

Next fall, a group of Watertown area pastors will be leading a trip to Israel and you can go along!

We have brochures with more information at the Info Center in the foyer or you can use the button below to look at a digital version. The brochure includes a registration form. You do not need to have the COVID vaccine to go on the trip.

Deeper in Relationships

From June 2021 to August 2022 we will go deeper in relationships with people outside and inside the church body to intentionally share the grace and love of Jesus Christ with them and to grow together as his disciples.

The Gospels are full of stories of Jesus intentionally engaging those inside and outside the family of God. We want to know and obey the words of Jesus and we also want to emulate his lifestyle. We will be a people who are willing to get out of our comfort zone and make building relationships a higher priority in our everyday lives. We know that in our post-Christian culture it is a poor strategy to sit back and wait for people to attend our worship services. We challenge every person at New Life to meet, talk to, get to know, and go deeper with at least 1 person within our church family and 1 person outside our church family each month!

In the coming months you can anticipate sermons about reaching out to others with the love of Christ, evangelism training taking place in Life Groups, continued times of prayer, and an overall focus on building relationships with people in the six counties all around us.
